This company, with registered headquarters in Valle de Tobalina, Spain, is a private entity engaged in the production and distribution of electricity from nuclear power. It was formed as a result of the Conferencia Internacional de las Naciones Unidas in Geneva in 1955 when the specifications for the use of the nuclear energy in the electricity production were approved. It was officially founded by the companies Electra de Viesgo and Iberduero in March of 1957 for the purpose of constructing a power station plant. The company is the leading in Spain in the use of nuclear energy for electricity generation. The company's properties include the Santa Maria de Garoña nuclear power station -- a station located on a peninsula formed by a meander of the river Ebro, close to the village of the same name in the Tobalina valley in the province of Burgos. The company has affiliation with Spain-based companies Endesa Generacion S.A., Iberdrola Generacion Sociedad Anonima, and Iberdrola SA. Endesa Generacion and Iberdrola Generacion are private companies with active interest in the generation and transmission of electric power.
